Why did I start reading it?
I'd been meaning to get around to book 2 for a while now.
What is it?
Azusa had acquired a family in her little house in the highlands. The group have some small adventures together, slowly adding more to their little household
What are the characters like?
They are all pretty cute though I will admit their personalities start to get a little stale in this book compared to the last.
What's the bad news?
The bad news is the same as the last review and honestly, it's worse in this volume.
It's very obvious that these are women written by a male author and It's really, really awkward at times. The author wants to appeal to the etchi audience slightly with my fave girl Halkara by pointing out her giant boobs all the time but because this book is from Azusa in the first person he awkwardly adds something like 'that's what men would think' because we can't go near any homo in this book. Any time it gets remotely close it gets real awkward, real fast and with an all-female cast it happens sometimes and when it does it's real cringy.
And the good news?
Good news is the heart of the book remains. This series is like a Saturday morning cartoon. Hijinks, minimal threat, and the safe knowledge that everyone will be relatively unchanged by the end and ready for the next adventure. It's like if all the little fluffy fanfic scenarios were placed into one series and, when it's not being cringy it is still just a nice world to relax in.
Would you recommend?
You know, I don't think I would. I don't like to say that about books but When I think of this part of the review I think of how I would sell it to my friends and I know none of them would really be able to look past the flaws of this volume, which is a shame. I wanted to be on the ride with these characters for more but I think I'll be getting off the train here.
Extra note:
There is an anime of this series coming up that I look forward to. The media change will do a lot for it as we won't have to have Azusa praying away the gay, the animators can just show off Halkara without it.
